“Daimoku (Nam-Myo-Ho-Renge-Kyo) is like light. As the Daishonin says, "A candle can light up a place that has been dark for billions of years". Similarily, the moment we offer prayers based on daimoku, the darkness in our lives vanishes. This is the principle of the simultaneity of cause and effect. At that very instant in the depths of our lives our prayer has been answered”.

SGI-UK Motto - Trust through Friendship, Peace through trust

local news page of SGI-UK East Midlands

From time to time, local groups of SGI-UK hold events that are open to the public. If you subscribe to our e-mail list you will automatically be advised of any East Midlands Events

Each month meetings are held, usually in small groups (called districts) throughout the East Midlands. These meetings are friendly and informal and welcoming for new people that want to find out more about this Buddhist Practise

Discussion Meetings
The discussion meeting is the key monthly meeting, which consists of a short period of chanting followed by a discussion on the agreed topic. These meetings are ideal for new people as topics are chosen to be broad enough for new people to feel included. If you would like to find out where your nearest one is, please contact info@chantingbuddhas.co.uk and we will put you in touch with your local district.

There are other meetings held during the month, some of which are more suitable than others for new people. The 'basics' meeting is increasingly being held on a monthly basis where a specific topic is discussed. These meetings can be slightly more 'study' based but still include a short period of chanting before the meeting and new people will be made more than welcome at these meetings.
Once again please contact info@chantingbuddhas.co.uk and we will put you in touch with your local district.

Norwich Lectures

Though not technically East Midlands, some people might be interested in the following meetings at the Assembly House in Norwich, so I thought they were worth posting anyway

The second lecture is on at the Assembly house in Norwich on the 25th June 7.15pm.
The talk is on Transforming suffering and illusion. No matter how unpleasant the circumstances we find ourselves in, we can transform them into hope and good fortune and into eternal happiness. Cath Coombs is giving this talk.

The third one is on Monday the 24th September 7.15
The talk is by Richard Norwell and is on The Gohonzon
This is scroll or Mandala we focus on during our daily practice.

The fourth one is Monday the 10th December 7.15pm again with Richard Norwell
The Topic is Human Revolution & World Peace
True happiness comes about when we value our own Buddha nature, this requires a change from within. This inner change is often referred to as Human Revolution and is the objective of practicing Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism.
